Who am I?
I am a writer (among other things). I’d consider myself a novelist as I spend most of my time working on long-form fiction. I also write short stories that I try to publish with literary journals. And I share what I’ve learned about writing and reading through essays posted on my blog. You can find that here:
My undergraduate degree is in Accounting from the University of Southern California. I spent 16 years in corporate and financial consulting before getting serious about my passion for the written word.
I pursued my Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at Queens University of Charlotte, which gave me a stocked toolbox and a boost of confidence to become the writer I’ve always wanted to be.
I am also:
A wife. My husband and I met at work in 2000 and we’ve been married since 2004.
A mother of two children, a daughter born in 2007 and a son in 2010.
A perpetual learner. I consume knowledge like one takes in sustenance. I’m practicing to become tri-lingual. I read widely to broaden my worldview, and I’m always on the lookout for new ways of doing and being.
An adventurer. I love to travel. I’m happiest outside, climbing a mountain, swimming in the ocean or riding my beach cruiser.
A cultivator. I keep a garden. I tend it daily. It has taught me how precious everything is, how hard it is to grow and create something.
A practitioner of mindfulness. I meditate daily, I practice yoga and I go to therapy. The most important thing I’ve learned on this life journey is to slooooowww down.
What is my Substack about?
My main focus is to share ideas and best practices related to writing and critical reading. I hope my posts generate a dialogue, so we can share resources with each other.
